Q&A with Aimee

What do you do at CAES?

I am the academic advisor for Biological Science majors (last name K-Z). I also advise unspecified CAES students until they choose their major and Honors Interdisciplinary majors in CAES. As an advisor, I help students choose their classes and fulfill all of their graduation requirements in a timely fashion. On a typical day, I might answer emails and phone calls from students, have one-on-one appointments with students, and investigate and inform students about resources and events available to them.

How do you interact with students and improve student life in CAES?

I meet with students one-on-one to help them create a four-year plan for their coursework at UGA, making sure they take the classes required for their major and for university and college requirements, but I also try to help students find room to explore their interests. I am available to answer student questions by email, over the phone, or in person. If a student wishes to attend graduate or professional school (for example, med school, PA school, etc.), I can give advice about which classes they need and how to prepare for their entrance exam (ie, the MCAT, DAT, GRE, etc.), and answer any other questions they may have. I also help connect students with any other UGA resources that may benefit them.

What is your favorite thing about CAES?

My favorite thing about CAES is the people. I’ve meet some truly fantastic students (and staff and faculty, as well) – intelligent, kind, curious, and dedicated. They are an absolutely pleasure to work with! My second favorite thing about CAES is how pretty the campus is. Conner Hall is a gorgeous building, and south campus is just beautiful, especially during the spring and fall!
